Configure Basic Constraints
Quick Start · Step 6 of 9
Objective
Set up the minimum constraints required to generate a valid timetable.
Prerequisites
- All data has been imported and reviewed
Estimated time
4 minutes
Steps
1. Open Constraints
Click Constraints in the sidebar.
2. Set Room Capacity Rule
Ensure the Room Capacity constraint is enabled. This prevents assigning more students to a room than its capacity allows.
3. Set Instructor Conflict Rule
Ensure the Instructor Availability constraint is enabled. This prevents scheduling an instructor in two places at the same time.
4. Set Room Conflict Rule
Ensure the Room Conflict constraint is enabled. This prevents assigning two classes to the same room at the same time.
5. Configure Basic Preferences (Optional)
If needed, adjust the following:
- Preferred time slots: Set morning/afternoon preferences for specific courses
- Room type preferences: Match course types (lecture, lab, seminar) to appropriate room types
For now, the default settings are sufficient.
Expected Result
Your project has the minimum constraints configured. The solver can now generate a conflict-free timetable.
